Roadworks which have been causing congestion on the A39 Penryn bypass will continue until the end of February next year, Cornwall Council have confirmed.

Workers are carrying out alterations at the Kernick Roundabout to create a new Toucan crossing to provide better access from Mabe to Penryn, and will continue into the new year with a break for Christmas.

A spokesperson for the council said the works "form part of extensive pedestrian and cycle improvements" and include the crossing which caters for both cyclists and pedestrians.

They said: "The A39 is being widened locally to accommodate the crossing and new shared use cycle/pedestrian paths are being constructed.

"The path and crossing will provide an important and safe link for residents in the Mabe Burnthouse community to workplace, education, leisure and shopping facilities in Penryn."

The break in the works will run from the start of December to the New Year, which the council said will "help reduce the impact on the travelling public and local businesses during the festive period," although CORMAC will continue with off-road works.

The spokesperson added: "In the meantime, CORMAC apologises for any inconvenience caused and will continue to minimise the impact of the works where possible."
