Penryn's Poppy Appeal organiser has thanked everybody who helped after the initiative saw saw a rise in donations compared to previous years.

Gillian Grant said she was "absolutely delighted" with this years appeal which collected £19,019 to help former armed service personnel and their families.

Mrs Grant, the Poppy Appeal organiser for the Penryn Branch of the Royal BRitish Legion, said: "The figure is up on previous years and I understand that it is the same nationally.

"My thanks go to all the shops, pubs and organisations who had collecting boxes and of course to Asda and Lidl who allowed us to collect from eight in the morning to eight at night. None of this could be achieved without the help of all our collectors."

She added: "A huge thank you must go the Falmouth and Penryn Sea Cadets who organise the whole appeal. Penryn and the surrounding villages must be very proud that they are a vital part of the national event and that the money collected will go to support the vital work of the Royal British Legion."
