Nominations for Penryn's highest honour, the Saracen Awards, have been opened for 2015/16 by Penryn Town Council.

The council is asking for recommendations for the award, which has been called Penryn's version of the OBE, and is seeking residents who had a made a significant contribution to the town's community life.

The council said: "The award is considered to be the highest mark of esteem and honour that the council can bestow in recognition of services to Penryn."

Up to two awards can be given in any one year and the honour is restricted to individuals who have at some time lived in Penryn or worked in organisations based in Penryn.

Two years ago the recipients were Patricia Ashe, for her work in setting up Breathe Falmouth, and Michael Young, Peter Young and Anthony Retallack, who received a joint award for everything they have done for Penryn Athletic Football Club.

Nominations should be made in writing to the town mayor at Penryn Town Council, Saracen House, Higher Market Street, Penryn TR10 8HU by the end of Friday, December 18, and a decision will be made by full council at its meeting on Monday,
