If you turn your eyes to the heavens in Cornwall next week you may just see Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn align in the morning sky.

The five planet alignment will be visible from January 20 to February 20 as the five brightest planets in the solar system will all be visible to the naked eye, a phenomenon which hasn't been seen for 10 years.

However with plenty of cloud cover forecast you may need to wait to Thursday to see the spectacualr sight as Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn align in an arc across the morning sky appearing as bright stars.

Have a look at the guides below from the Met Office to help you spot them.

You'll need to be up early to see the sight as experts say the best time to see the stars will be 45 minutes before dawn.

The best direction to face will change slightly day to day, but as a general rule you will need to look between southwest/southeast.  The moon will also be visible in the sky for some of this time so will be a hand reference point to help you identify the planets.

In the graphic below you can check where the moon is on the date you are looking and identify where the planets are in relation to it.
