Falmouth coastguard team and Falmouth lifeboat were involved in the search for a missing man who was thought to have gone into the river river at Malpas, Truro on Thursday morning.

One person had already been rescued by the police using a throw line and taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital when the team arrived at the incident at Malpas Road, Truro.

There was still some concern about another person seen to enter the water with the first. This was seen by several people on the shore side.

A Coastguard Rescue Helicopter was used to help in the search using state of the art imaging equipment.

One of the Falmouth team was already on scene acting as a Coastguard liaison officer, along with numerous emergency services.

Search teams went along the west side of the river, covering the shore side, from the lock gate to the old paddle steamer near to the Piazza.

The Fire and Rescue Service concentrated their efforts on the east side and the RNLI Lifeboat from Falmouth, initially concentrated in the middle of the river.

However the teams found no sign of the second man and regrouped to consider their next move.

The teams then put on their mud rescue gear to search the mud flats as the tide was falling, meaning their was a greater chance of finding someone on the mud flats rather than when the water was higher.

Teams of Coastguards and Fire Fighters worked together on the shore side concentrating the search on the east side of the river where some foot prints had been discovered entering the water.

Once this whole area was searched from the shore, sea and air and all units were happy that there was nothing further that could be done the search was stood down.

With nothing found this incident was left with the Police for further inquiries.
