Pupils at St Mary's School in Falmouth enjoyed a day of Chinese cooking as part of a programme to help engage children with their food and where it comes from.

As well as getting hands on with their food, shredding up ingredients to be folded into tasty pastry packages, the children also got to have a good sniff of all the spices and flavourings that went into the mix, and also learned about where they have come from.

The programme is run by Tesco, and Richard Pinch from the Truro store was on hand to talk the children through what to do. He said: "Today, because it's Chinese New Year, the idea is to celebrate by making Chinese spring rolls.

"All I'm doing is demonstrating to them how to make it. It gets them hands-on and cooking.

"The kitchen will cook them, and then they can take them home from school."

The farm to fork project aims at showing children every stage of the food they eat, including inviting school groups into stores to see how food is stored and sold, as well as discussing suppliers and where food comes from.
