You don't have to be a farmer to join the Young Farmers, according to the organisation's Falmouth branch, which is currently on the hunt for new members.

Falmouth Young Farmers’ Club says the cliché that Young Farmers' Clubs are only for people from farming backgrounds is far from the truth.

Clubs secretary Marie Curtis said: "Being a Young Farmer is not just about tractors, herding cows and flat caps - it's so much more than that."

"Young Farmers is all about getting like-minded young people to have fun, learn new activities and skills and achieve lots."

"As one of the 20 clubs that are a part of Cornwall YFC, Falmouth YFC are seeking new members to join the club to take part in a wide range of its own and county activities including stock judging, drama and public speaking, county rally and handicrafts, sports and more.”

Falmouth YFC welcomes members from Falmouth, Penryn, Mabe, Mylor, Mawnan Smith, Constantine and all surrounding areas.

When Falmouth YFC are not turning their hands to organising social events or sport, charity is always at the top of its agenda, including this year raising money for Diabetes UK through a range of local fundraisers.

Marie added: "From meeting friends you will keep for life, to discovering a skill you never even knew you had.

"There is so much more to Young Farmers than wellies and tractors. So if you are aged between 10 and 26 and want to get involved in something new, then Young Farmers is for you."

"You certainly don’t need to be a farmer; in fact, you don’t even need to own a pair of wellies. Young Farmers' Clubs will give you a great social life, friends for life and an opportunity to learn new skills."

For more information on joining Falmouth YFC, log on to the group's Facebook page or contact chairman Tom Penrose on 07446 118505 or secretary Marie Curtis on 07983 109265.

The club will also have a presence in the YFC marquee at the Royal Cornwall Show in June.
