The residents of Trevern Care Home in Falmouth celebrated the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II in style today (21/4) with a tea party and entertainment.

While previous plans for a party outside were curtailed due to the possibility of rain, the residents, guests and staff enjoyed an afternoon indoors being entertained by a singer, before indulging in cream teas and cakes to mark the anniversary of Britain's longest reigning monarch.

Becky Sullivan, the home's activity co-ordinator, said: "Everyone is enjoying celebrating the Queen's 90th birthday. Just relaxing and getting in the swing of it."

The group were also joined by representatives from the head office of Cornwall Care, the company which runs the home and which had let all its central staff visit care homes and celebrate the day.

Steve O'Toole, of Cornwall Care, said: "The Queen's at an age that a lot of the residents are at, and that's why it's quite poignant. Quite a lot of people don't make it to this age."
