Up to six weeks of work has started at the Treliever roundabouts in Penryn as Cornwall Council continues with plans for a town wide cycle network.

Cormac will start work on improvements for the Penryn and Falmouth cycle scheme, which will help cyclists around the roundabouts by providing paths and widened refuges to avoid conflict with turning traffic, which will also benefit pedestrians.

The council has said the improvements, along with the other measures in Falmouth and Penryn, will encourage sustainable commuter and leisure trips and tackle barriers to cycling on the highway.

It should link into the other improvements for pedestrians and cyclists already implemented, such as the additional cycle parking in both town centres and the shared use path at Union Road, as well as those still to be built, such as shared use paths along Kernick Road.

The works are expected to take four to six weeks, with some disruption expected, although contractor CORMAC will keep this to a minimum with the closure of single lanes on the approaches to and between the roundabouts.
