The Bishop of Truro paid a visit to King Charles School in Falmouth last Thursday to celebrate the opening of a new, safer entrance into the site.

Bishop Tim Thornton heard school children singing songs of praise and gave a short announcement before cutting the ceremonial ribbon to officially open the new entrance and reception area.

He told pupils: "Help me let the whole of Falmouth and the whole of the world know that we have done something very special here today.

"What you have done has enabled this school to be safer, and that's crucial because you will learn even better when you are safe.

"What you have also done is make this a welcoming school, what school is all about is saying you want everybody to come along and take part in learning."

Head teacher Claire Fortey said: "We are delighted that Bishop Tim was able to come along and join us today.

"We are really pleased that the new front and entrance provides a safer and more welcoming way into the school for everybody. Previously all pedestrians had to come through the car park."

The children handed out flowers to some of the staff members, and Mrs Fortey thanked the office staff for putting up with the disruption of the change, the caretaker who helped with minor jobs during the rebuild, the school governors, Councillor Candy Atherton for funding support, and "most importantly Mrs Winn, who project managed the whole thing, and without her it would never have happened."
