Penryn adventure charity BF Adventure will be able to better support young people with mental health issues after securing funding from two charitable organisations.

The charity, which runs an activity centre for disadvantaged children and adults at an old quarry near Halvasso has been given funding from Duchy Health Charity and Gwellheans Ltd for a programme focusing on supporting young people suffering from mental health issues in Cornwall.

The Barrier-free Adventure programme will focus on young people with severe anxiety and self-esteem issues, and provide a supportive schedule tailored to individual needs with activities to promote mental wellbeing, social bonding, resilience and confidence, developing greater connectivity and engagement.

Progress will be assessed through tailored sessions and supporting young people to develop characteristics including improved communications, self-esteem and teamwork.

Adrian Richards, BF Adventure chief executive, said: "We are delighted to have been funded for this great new programme, mental health in young people is really important and in the past has not been taken seriously. BF Adventure is the ideal location for this programme with its beautiful granite quarries and stunning 60 acre site. We already support over 4,000 young people in Cornwall each year, this will give us the ability to focus upon supporting their health and wellbeing in a key area of need."

BF Adventure is now looking to fill the position of part time co-ordinator to run this fantastic new programme. For more information see their website www.bfadventure.org contact jobs@bfadventure.org or 01326 340912
