Falmouth's inshore lifeboat set out in the dusk to rescue a yacht which had suffered engine failure while heading for Falmouth Harbour yesterday evening (30/5).
Falmouth Coastguard called the lifeboat at around 8.45pm following a request from the ten metre yacht Snowbound, which had two people on board and a skipper who did not know the harbour.
The lifeboat arrived off the West Narrows Buoy just before 9pm, and the yacht dropped its sails and was taken in tow to the visitors yacht haven and safely moored.
A Falmouth RNLI spokesperson said: "The yacht's skipper had called the coastguard to advice of his engine problems and concerns about sailing into a harbour which he was unfamiliar with.
"The coastguard consulted with the lifeboat operations manager as the light was failing and there was no harbour patrol available so it was decided as a precaution to launch the Inshore Lifeboat to ensure the yachtsman made it into the harbour safely.
"The skipper and his crew were very grateful for the assistance he had received."
