Drivers in Penryn have been endangering pedestrians and other road users by driving the wrong way around the town's clock tower, police have said.

Officers said they had received complaints about vehicles driving the wrong way up the one way section of Lower Market Street, which seems to be caused by drivers becoming impatient not waiting for refuse lorries collecting along Higher Market Street.

A police spokesperson said: "This type of driving does not only endanger the occupants of the vehicle but also pedestrians and shows no regard for the safety of others.

"This week we have formally dealt with one driver for doing this and will not hesitate to deal with others should they be identified as committing an offence. There are CCTV cameras throughout the town which can and will be used as evidence against any motorist committing offences if required."

Anyone who sees a vehicle driving dangerously should report it by calling 101 or emailing Falmouth@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk
