Modified car owners are invited to show off their wheels - and driving skills - at the Falmouth Urban Speed Event (FUSE) at Falmouth Community Fire Station on Saturday, July 23.

The event, organised by Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety crews at Falmouth and aimed at 16 to 24 year-olds, will run from 12pm to 4pm with the aim of raising awareness and reducing the number of accidents on the roads.

FUSE also aims to improve awareness and understanding of the dangers of driving too fast, not wearing seat belts and using a mobile phone whilst driving. Due to its success in previous years it has become an annual event and is now in its fifth year.

This year there will be also be an opportunity to take part in a race car simulator and a driving simulator provided by Devon and Somerset Fire Service. In addition there will be a bouncy castle, prizes for winning car entries and a raffle including prizes donated by Mill Autoquip, Kernow Adventure Park, Saltrock and local restaurants.

Crews from Falmouth will also be promoting road safety by running a drink and drive demonstration and showing visitors what it feels like to be a casualty being cut from a vehicle.

People looking to enter a car are advised to arrive from 11.15am, and no show cars are permitted to park at Falmouth School.
