Two sailors and a dog were rescued by Falmouth's RNLI volunteers after their boat drifted onto rocks at Messack Point in the Carrick Roads on Saturday afternoon.

Falmouth coastguard called for the inshore lifeboat to help the 4.5 metre open boat after a 999 call just after 3.30pm reported that it was in danger of drifting onto the point.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "The boat which had been on a fishing trip had suffered complete engine and electrical failure.

"Unfortunately as the vessel did not have a hand held radio direct communication was not possible which made initial location of the vessel difficult."

The lifeboat crew checked a number of similar vessels in the area, before finding the boat on the rocks on the St Just Creek side of Messack Point just after 4pm.

Due to the shallow water the lifeboat approached the bow first so a line could be passed and the vessel was then gently pulled off the rocks and into deeper water.

It was checked to make sure it was not taking on water and then taken in tow back to Falmouth Harbour and returned to the Grove Place Dinghy Park.
