Councillors in Penryn have said they do not support the latest planning application from the owners of the Old Telephone Exchange to convert the building into eight flats.

The application is the latest in a string of attempts to redevelop the building, with an application for student lets made in 2014, one for 10 self contained units in 2015, and an appeal when that was overturned, which took place earlier this year.

At a meeting of the town council on Tuesday, July 5, councillors said some improvements had been made on previous applications, including the stonework to the front of the building and a reduction in external doors.

But concerns were raised over the increase in the footprint of the building in relation to the size of the site and an absence of amenity space and parking, as well as a lack of space for bikes or other modes of transport.

The council objected to the plans on the grounds of overdevelopment and lack of amenity space.
