A nine year-old Falmouth schoolboy will attempt to make his way from Land's End to John o' Groats and back in just eight days this summer to raise money for guide dogs.

Dexter Kitto will make the journey by car with his mother Michaela, who is registered as severely sight impaired, father Nigel, and Michaela's guide dog Jackie, in support of the charity Guide Dogs.

What's more, he has said he will be giving up all of his pocket money for the summer as his own donation towards the charity.

Dexter said: "I'm excited, and happy, I've never been to Scotland . It's going to be a bit of an adventure

"I'm doing it because of Jackie, and because Guide Dogs rely on donations from the public. I have seen the difference a guide dog can make as well."

Michaela, who has had sight problems since she was 15 and has been registered blind for the last five years, is now an ambassador for the charity, visiting schools to teach them a bout the work of the charity.

She said: "To do the journey, Dexter offered his pocket money for the summer for a donation. That would amount to £50, and we thought we would see if we could get it doubled. We have managed £266 so far on Just Giving, and we're hoping to reach £300.

Dexter will be keeping a journal to record his trip, which is needed for Land's End to certify the journey, and it will also serve as a reminder for the family with parts of it going on display at the school as well. The family is also thinking of setting up a Facebook page to keep people up to date with the journey as it happens.

The family will set off on their more than 1,600 mile trip on August 7, with the aim to be back at Land's End on August 14. They will stop off at Atherton Guide Dog Training Centre on the way, where Dexter is hoping to try a blindfolded walk with one of the dogs.
