The pupils of Falmouth Primary Academy had plenty to smile about on Thursday as they celebrated two big achievements.

The children from year six were recognised by the school for their fantastic SATs results, scoring above the national average by every measure and in every subject.

The results show that 71 per cent of children reached the age expected standard, compared with 66 per cent of children nationally, 75 per cent reached the standard in grammar in comparison to 72 per cent of children nationally, 75 per cent of children in writing in comparison to 74 per cent nationally and 92 per cent in maths compared to 70 per cent nationally.

Year six teacher Hannah Moorlock said: "At school we were above the national average in each subject area. The children were really pleased with their scores and felt that their hard work and nervous wait was worth it."

The whole school was also proud to hand over a cheque for £1,500 after a big fundraising campaign for the charity Guide Dogs.

The children gave the cheque to Guide Dogs ambassador Michaela Kitto and her guide dog Jackie, having raised money with cake sales, table top sales, non-uniform days, and an Easter Egg raffle.

Toby Nicholas, the year two teacher, also ran a number of half marathons to raise cash.

Miss Moorlock said: "The children can't wait to meet the puppy that they have bought and are really proud of themselves for making a difference."
