Mawnan's Craft Market has had another successful year with plenty of visitors, water problems threatening a wash out on one Thursday afternoon.

The annual market, held in the Mawnan Memorial Hall, is now in its 40th year, over the course of a fortnight it has been offering Cornish produce from over 70 stalls, to residents of the village and visitors from further afield.

The market is a fundraising enterprise for the hall, and one of the organisers, Val Tunwell, said she thought it had benefited this year from weather that was "not quite beach weather" as it sent more visitors to the hall instead.

However, there was one issue, as South West Water had reported it would need to cut off the water one Thursday to carry out some work, meaning the organisers had to make alternative toilet arrangements and the tea room had to be closed, which will have dented profits.

Val said: "It has been going well, and I think our we were very pleased with the money we have raised.

"We have had lots of local people, visitors from the village and further afield, and a lot of visitors from abroad as well.

"Everything is made in Cornwall and we have a range of things on sale, jewellery, ceramics, textiles, and pottery."

She said the organisers had been in contact with South West Water to ask about compensation for the water supply issue, as they had only been warned the day before the market had opened, and in the end the cut-off did not happen, although by the time they were informed it was too late to change any plans.

She added: "We are not very pleased."
