A young man from Falmouth who was "lost" after his mother died of cancer has raised over £100 for Cancer Research with a sponsored exercise bike ride.

Tom Clements, 22, who has dyslexia and dyspraxia, said he relied on his mother for her help up until her death three years ago, and has since had to adjust to life without her.

He now volunteers at the Cancer Research shop in Falmouth, and in an attempt to give something back to the charity he has also spent twelve hours on an exercise bike at the Falmouth Hotel to raise sponsorship.

Tom was originally meant to be riding for six hours, but after his first session he was invited back to the hotel to repeat his feat during a lunch on the lawn event.

He said: "On the day I think we raised about £30, and the Falmouth Hotel was doing a lunch on the lawn... they asked me to do another six hours on the bike and I think we raised more then.

"I'm trying to get all the sponsor money together but I reckon we raised about £100."

He added: "It was really good. I took it easy for the first couple of hours. Of course, I was tiring near the endbut I felt really good about it."

Tom said he had a lot of support, and thanked his good friend Stacey Mannix for her help, as well as the staff at the Falmouth Hotel. who he said were "really helpful."

As well as Cancer Research, Tom also volunteers at the Poly in Falmouth and has a show on Source FM, and the money he has collected will be split between all three groups.

He also has an online donations page to go alongside his cash sponsorship, which can be found at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/tomclements
