No, Falmouth is not the latest testing ground for the world's first submersible car, although one vehicle owner may be wishing they had made some James Bond-esque modifications right about now.
After Falmouth escaped the spring tides without any real problems, one motorist had the bad fortune to see their people carrier swamped at the slipway by Falmouth Water Sports Centre.
According to one eyewitness, the man claimed the handbrake must have failed after his vehicle rolled down the slope and into the waters of Falmouth Harbour yesterday afternoon (24/8).
The witness also said that no-one appeared to have been harmed.
The Water Sports Centre did not wish to comment on the incident.
A spokesperson for Falmouth Harbour Commissioners said: "At 5.30pm yesterday evening, the duty harbour master was contacted by the supervisor of the Falmouth Haven operated slipway next to the Falmouth Watersports Centre to say that a vehicle had experienced a handbrake failure and had rolled down the slipway, into the water.
"The slipway was closed for approximately two hours whilst a vehicle with a winch was brought to the scene so that the vehicle could be recovered. Nobody was hurt and the water was not polluted."
