THERE were celebrations at Falmouth School this year as it recorded its best GCSE results ever.

over 80 per cent of year 11 students achieved a GCSE grade C or better in English and maths, and 84 per cent of students reaching the same level in science.

The vast majority of students have made excellent progress from their starting point on entry to the school five years ago, and students achieving the A*/A grades have also improved, with 32 students achieving at least five of these top grades.

The school has seen a steady increase in the number of pupils achieving grade C or above in English and maths over recent years, from 70 per cent in 2014 to 75 per cent in 2015, and up to 80 per cent this year.

A spokesperson said: "The school is delighted to report that the number of students achieving at least five A* to C grades at GCSE is, once again, significantly above the national average. The number achieving five or more A* to C grades including English and maths is much higher than the national average and continues to increase from the previous high of last year.

"These results represent considerable effort by the students, supported all the way through by their teachers and families. The results reflect the commitment and hard work of the students and the quality of teaching, guidance and support from the staff.

"It is a pleasure to congratulate so many students on making such good progress through their GCSEs. Many of the students will be returning to join Falmouth College in September and we look forward to building further on their achievements."

This year ten students achieved an outstanding ten or more A*/A grades, and those were: Minnie Harrop, Erin Hemingway, Evie Jenkin, Amber Luckett, Kirsty Noble, Tadhg Cullen, Eleanor Daniell, Abby Mundell, Joshua Talbot and Grace Willetts.

There was also one much younger face among the crowd, with 11 year-old Oscar Green at the school to collect one Italian GCSE.

Oscar, who lived in Italy for two years, said it felt "really, really good" to collect his results.

The school said: "Congratulations to you all and we wish all of our students every success as they move onto the next stage of their education."
