There will be plenty of time for tea at Gyllyngdune Gardens in Falmouth on Sunday, September 18, as it hosts its sixth annual Tea Festival.

This celebration of all things tea is an eclectic mix of tea tasting, tea dances, pop-up theatre performances, live music throughout the site, tea leaf reading, the ‘CrafTEA’ Tent, cream teas and afternoon teas, all with a serving of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Circus performers and pop-up dancers will entertain throughout the tropical gardens of Gyllyngdune, which sweep down to the waters of Falmouth Bay.

The event offers workshops for all ages with the chance to create floral headresses, screenprint, weave willow and throw a clay pot. Demonstrations include raku firing, showing this ancient Japanese technique rooted into the tea ceremony tradition.

An exciting mix of tea related stalls and exhibitors such as traders Tregothnan and Curious Tea, unique and individual creations for your home from Upscutlery, and a treasure trove of gifts from Cornish Magpie will all be available on the day.

In its 100 year history the Princess Pavilion and Gyllyngdune Gardens has had a strong connection with tea. Once owned by Frederick Horniman, a Victorian tea trader and founder of the Horniman Museum in London, the venue has hosted thousands of tea dances and served afternoon teas for visitors to enjoy.

The gardens will also play host to tea dances courtesy of TJ Randall and The Foxytrotters on the upper lawn and Story Republic, who will regale all with poems, stories and songs throughout the day in the quarry garden.

The day runs from 11am – 5pm and entry is free. For more information call the Pavilion box office on 01326 211222.
