A Mylor catering company provided a wedding feast of Olympian proportions recently at the union of Cornish double gold medallist Helen Glover and television presenter Steve Backshall.

Business owner Jenny Taylor and a team of 25 staff from Truffles catering were delighted to cater for the star studded Penzance wedding, attended by a host of celebrity guests including TV presenters, Olympic rowers and medallists, and stars from Strictly Come Dancing.

Penzance native Helen stayed true to her roots with plenty of local fare throughout the day, accompanied by stunning views of St Michael's Mount and the Cornish coast. The meal was a feast of Cornish produce. After drinks and canapes, guests dined on seafood from Seabourne Fish, succulent lamb from Mylor village butchers and finished the meal with wedding cake and ice cream from Helen's family ice cream shop, Jelberts.

Later on guests enjoyed a fabulous firework display and rounded off the night with pasties from Gear Farm and mini cones of fish and chips.

Jenny said: "It was quite exciting, because Helen is an Olympic gold medallist and Steve is a well known presenter, so it was a bit surreal in a way."

She said she mainly dealt with Helen's mother, as the rower was away for her rowing and her fiancée was travelling all over the world, and it "didn't seem quite real" until she met them the day before.

Jenny said the bride looked "absolutely stunning" in her dress, and added: "She is very tall and very slim and the dress was absolutely jaw dropping, she looked absolutely amazing. Everybody commented that she was gorgeous."

And the Truffles staff also enjoyed the event, with some even coming in early to make sure they could see the couple and the celebrity guests.

Jenny said: "Everybody was quite excited, and I said to them to treat everybody as normal wedding guests. As the day went on they got chatting to them, everybody was very friendly and it was a lovely informal family wedding. The celebrities were brilliant, some wandered into the kitchen for different things and had a chat.

She added: "It was one of the nicest weddings we have ever done."
