A group of pupils at Falmouth Primary Academy will be taking part in a fundraising world record attempt as they contribute to the world's biggest blanket in hopes of warming refugees.

The school's new crochet club is stitching together squares as part of the 60 Million Trebles project, as project that aims to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds in sponsorship as it attempts to create the largest crochet blanket ever.

The piece will be made up of blankets made by volunteers up and down the country, and after it has been unveiled in London it will be broken down into its constituent pieces to be donated to refugee charities.

Rosie Sosic, a teaching assistant who runs crochet club at the school, said: "A treble is a type of crochet stitch. Each treble represents a human life, because there were 60 million refugees in the world when it started: there are more now."

She added: "They are asking children, rather than making a blanket, to make up squares which will be made into a blanket. We have been doing it for a couple of weeks."

Crochet club member Lydia said: "This school does lots to try and help charities to help people who don't have that much. This school likes to give."
