Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank has launched an appeal for ongoing day to day support having lost funding over the last year.

The organisation is looking for 200 people to join its "200 club" of donors giving just £5 a month to help support its efforts to feed those at need in the community.

The group, which was founded at the Highway Church in Penryn in 2009, handed out just over 1,000 emergency food packages last year, but after losing some of its funding it is now asking for help from local businesses and churches, as well as individuals, to ensure both short-term and long-term funding for the Foodbank.

Foodbank trustee David Ward said: "It is important to us that the Foodbank is not dependent on grant funding because, though grants are valuable for capital projects, they are not a long-term solution. The community are incredibly generous, providing us with tons of food every year, but when it comes to our running costs, this is where we would appreciate a local business to support us."

He added: "We really do appreciate the support the Foodbank has received over the last five years."
