There was cutlasses and cake for Penryn preschoolers at Jumblies Day Nursery's birthday celebrations on Thursday, although thankfully nobody had to walk the plank.

The nursery turned nautical for the pirate themed party, which celebrated ten years since Penryn Preschool closed its doors at the town's Methodist Church and relocated to a new home at Jubilee Wharf.

All children were invited to the party, which was held in the Zed Shed, where they enjoyed a morning filled with cake and entertainment.

Special guests Mark and Diane Snowdon, the mayor and mayoress of Penryn, talked to the children about their role, read the Jumblies story, and judged the competition for best picture of a mayoral chain.

The children were entertained by family entertainer Mr Tickle, and all received a goodie bag which was sponsored and handed out by Craig and Yvonne Turner from Four Cross Garage, before enjoying a birthday cake.

Managers Sabine Underwood and Cath Phillis thanked all who have supported them in the past, including Jubilee Wharf founder Andrew Marsden and his staff at Robotmother, the parent committee for the last ten years, with a special thank you to Natalie Bray for her continued loyal and enthusiastic support, and of thanks for "the best staff team ever."

They said: "We are looking forward to another decade supporting local families and their children."
