Users of Penryn Station car park will have to pay an extra ten pence a day from next month after Great Western Railway announced changes to its charges.

The company has said it is increasing the charges to pay for investment in parking systems and car park extensions across its network, with an average change of 19 pence per day.

In Penryn, it will be increasing the parking rate from £1.30 per day to £1.40 per day, effective from 11 December, and all annual permits renewed before February 28 will be at the previous tariff.

This represents the first change to GWR’s parking charges for five years, as the company has kept prices static since 2011 despite rising costs.

The price rise is expected to support an extra 2,000 parking spaces throughout the GWR network by 2019, automatic number plate recognition technology and updated credit card and pay and display machines.

GWR Managing Director Mark Hopwood said: “While I understand that no one wishes to pay more, this price increase will help our rail users take advantage of railway provided parking, and will enable further car parking facilities where they are most needed across the GWR network.”
