Plans are underway to lure and trap a dog who went missing at the weekend during a walk near Devoran.

Newlyweds Holly and Nicholas Prisk issued a Facebook plea for public to look out for female dachshund Crouton after she went missing during a walk between Carnon Downs and Devoran on Saturday afternoon.

After extensive searching, the couple took to camping out in the fields in the hope of finding their beloved pet, and on Tuesday evening it was reported that she had been spotted nearby.

Now Pixie Davis, who works for the charity Dogs Lost, wrote that she was "so traumatised [she] wouldn't approach her owners," who had set up "a feeding station , her crate and BBQ with some tasty liver cooking."

People had been asked to stay away from the area so as not to spook her, and to avoid leaving out food which could keep her outside, but now the plan has changed and Pixie is planning to capture Crouton.

Last night volunteers were meeting at the Quay Inn in Devoran, to set up volunteer camping shifts as Holly and Nick were exhausted.

She wrote: "We also need some traps, it's not going to be a case of crouton walking up to us now and volunteers must be aware of how to act if she does approach."

The dachshund disappeared on Saturday when she ran into bushes after slipping her collar when chasing rabbits on farmland, and the couple have said the little coat she was wearing "was found in bushes near to where she went missing."

Holly wrote on Facebook: "She's most likely stuck in the gorse down a hole in this area."

The couple have received many offers of help in response to their Facebook campaign, and are asking anyone who can to search areas around Carnon Downs, Point, Feock, Bissoe, Devoran and Playing Place we'd be very grateful.

They wrote: "She was last seen in the farmland behind Devoran and Point on Saturday late afternoon so she may have travelled far. She has no collar or coat on so we are hoping someone has picked her up but no word yet."

They offered a £200 reward if anyone finds Crouton, who is microchipped and registered to Pets At Home in Truro.

Anyone who finds Crouton is asked to call Holly on 07968 783320 or 07790 154588.
