BioBlitz returned to Penryn at the start of May, and visitors joined staff and students for some summer garden fun and a day of nature activities.

This year the team joined up with Penryn Garden Fete to create a day of wildlife spotting, summer games, fayre stalls and interactive activities.

The free event was open to all ages, and activities included spider spotting, pond dipping, moth trapping, bug hunting, mammal trapping, plant spotting, bat walks and garden games.

There was also a raffle with amazing prizes, make your own wildlife craft stalls, summer games, face painting, and a bouncy castle.

This was the sixth annual BioBlitz, and wildlife and charity organisations from all over Cornwall pitched in to help make the day such a success.

Marja Van Loef, travel plan coordinator at FXPlus, said: "It went really well despite the weather we had.

"It was quite busy, and we had lots of activities running throughout the day.

"We had artists in the gardens making sculptures and the public could join in.

"There was an open day in the sports centre, and people were enjoying themselves.

"It was great to see the families walking round, smiling, and taking part in the events including pond dipping.

"It was the first for us to do a combined event with the garden fete, but it was great to see everyone working together.

"Hopefully we will do it again next year."
