Penryn residents who missed their chance to stand for election to the town council recently will have a second opportunity as councillors seek three more members in the next month.

Recent elections for Penryn Town council were uncontested, meaning that all candidates who stood were automatically selected, but three seats still remain vacant.

Now the council is asking people to put themselves forward to be chosen by co-option, a process by which sitting councillors choose new members from a selection of nominees who put themselves forward for the post.

The Town Council may co-opt as a member any person who is legally qualified to hold such office, and who is willing to serve, provided he or she either is registered to vote in the parish, has lived for at least the last year twelve in the parish, works in the parish, or has lived within 4.8 km of the parish.

The council is looking for one councillor in the east and two in the west wards, and anyone interested should write to the town clerk at Penryn Town Council, Saracen House, Higher Market Street, TR10 8HU or email townclerk@penryntowncouncil.co.uk

The deadline for applications is Wednesday, June 7, and the selection will be made at the next full council meeting on Monday, June 12.
