Wrong information led to delays in the rescue of a walker who had slipped and injured herself on the coastal path near Falmouth yesterday lunchtime.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were joined by colleagues from Porthoustock for the rescue just before 12.40pm.

The woman had been walking near Maenporth when she fell and possibly fractured her ankle.

Alongside ambulance crews, the Falmouth coastguards gave first aid to the woman before transferring her on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance, with the help of Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Team.

The woman was then taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

A coastguard spokesperson said: “We wish the lady a speedy recovery.”

However, the team added that due to wrong information being given to begin with, the ambulance crew initially headed in the wrong direction.

The spokesperson said: ““When out walking, it's important you have a rough idea of where you are, as initially incorrect information was passed to ambulance control and sent the crew to the incorrect location towards Falmouth rather than towards Rosemullion Head, where the casualty was eventually found.

“If you spot anyone or get in trouble yourself on the coast, please call 999 and ask for coastguard. Our operations centres will be able to dispatch the most appropriate resource to come to your rescue.”
