BOOKING NOW OPEN FOR THE ROTARY CLUB’S 10TH FAL RIVER WALK!

25th May

Your boots are made for walking ……. that’s the message from organisers of the annual dog-friendly Fal River Walk which have released this year’s event date - Sunday 17th September – offering walkers a 6 mile or 15-mile circuit of the Fal Estuary, while at the same time keeping their feet dry!

The Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen will partner with the National Trust and Cornwall Ferries - the former to provide an idyllic location for the start and finish of the walks at Trelissick and the latter to arrange bespoke ferry services for the walkers.

The Rotary Club's charity partner for the second-year running will be the Merlin MS Centre.?Organisers are hoping to attract more walkers this year. Last year 145 walkers participated raising over £4,000. The event has been a successful charity fundraiser for the past nine years, raising many thousands of pounds for a range of good causes.?

‘As we officially open the booking, we are delighted to announce our principle sponsors for this year. Our 15 mile Long Walk is being sponsored by Atkins Ferrie Wealth Management whilst Chris Nicholls Motors is again sponsoring the 6 mile Short Walk. We are particularly grateful for their generous support which will mean even more money for our charities’ revealed Chair of the Fal River Walk Committee, Frank Perry.

‘What makes the Fal River Walk such an iconic event is the once a year opportunity to circumnavigate by land the Fal Estuary. We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Merlin MS Centre again on this year’s 10th Fal River Walk and want to raise as much as we can to support this worthy local charity,” continued Frank.

The Merlin MS Centre supports hundreds of people with MS and other neurological conditions every year. There are more than 1000 people in Cornwall diagnosed with MS – an incurable and often debilitating condition, which is twice the national average.

Lucy Chappell, Community Fundraiser for the charity said: “For many people, walking 15 miles will be a real challenge and one that will give them a true sense of achievement. For those living with a long term neurological condition like Multiple Sclerosis, life can present daily challenges. Cornwall has the highest rate of MS in mainland Britain and every penny raised will make a difference and help us to continue to provide our services to over 1000 registered users, their carers and their families. We are really excited to be working with the Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen again and are very grateful to have been chosen as their headlining charity for this year’s 10th anniversary walk”.

Entry fees also provide free car parking at Trelissick, a sumptuous cream tea at the conclusion of the walk, goody bags for all walkers and sponsorship offers.?Tickets for this event are available from Eventbrite with full details available from www.falriverwalk.co.uk or www.facebook.com/falriverwalk

Trelissick will also be the setting for Merlin’s 1.5k or 3k Family Fun Run on Sunday 16th July at 10.30am. For further details, please contact lucy@merlinmscentre.org.uk or go to www.merlinmscentre.org.uk
