Members of the Penryn Women's Institute met at the Stuart Stephen Memorial Hall on Wednesday to take part in an arts and crafts show.

Ladies in the group could enter into as many categories as they liked, including knitting, baking and crochet.

Entries were then assembled on the tables and looked over by judges, who then selected a best in category and one overall best in show.

Debbie Herbert, 53, president on the Penryn group, said: "We have something from most members on show, there are 19 categories in total, including knitting, needle work and photography.

"We have judges for each class and one winner will be selected for each category.

"There will be awards for the one with the most points, and there will also be a best of show award.

"We've had nine entries so far and we are expecting more. Some members like to come down just to watch.

"It's just a bit of fun really, and it also celebrates members talents.

"It's a tradition that we have been doing for some time now.

It's a great day, everyone has been working hard on their entries. It's a fun day, later on I imagine we will crack open the cakes and have some tea."

The Best in Show cup was awarded to Val Bidgood, for her knitted a blanket of a unique design.

Other winners include Debbie Herbert, Margaret Whibley, Pauline Storey and Mary Wade.

Overall winner of the show was President Debbie Herbert with 96 points.

Next up the group are planning a boat trip to St Mawes, a walking tour to see the Artist’s graves in Falmouth Cemetery and a celebratory lunch for the 88th anniversary of the formation of Penryn WI.

The group will also be helping out during the July Penryn Week, in particular the Flower , Produce and Craft Show, along with the refreshments.
