National Maritime Museum Cornwall launches brand new website

The National Maritime Museum Cornwall, based in Falmouth, launched a new website for the busy summer season after seeing visits to the website increase by over 40% on the previous year, in the year to date.

The brand new NMMC.CO.UK is part of an overall re-fresh of the museum’s digital brand which also includes social media, email and video.

A new digital content strategy has increased the museum’s use of video content to communicate key messages and promote new events and exhibitions.

The key updates on the website include improved user experience on smart phones and Ipads as over 50% of the museum’s website visitors now view the site on a smart phone, clearer navigation making it easier for customers to find what they’re looking for, and a news and video section which features insights from guest curators and video reports by young visitors to the museum. The news section also features guest blogs and exclusive exhibition imagery.

“We wanted to create a website that provides clear, comprehensive information about the exciting new exhibitions and events at the museum, interesting interactive video content that provides behind the scenes insights, and showcase some of the lesser known gems such as the in-house boatbuilding workshop, The Bartlett Maritime Research Centre and award winning educational workshops,” said the Museum’s Marketing and PR Manager Lauren Hogan.

In August 2017 the website saw an increase of 65% of visitors compared to August 2016.

The website designed by A-Side and developed by Ampersand, both Cornwall based agencies.
