Falmouth's police chief has urged parents to make sure they know where there children are after a very drunk 12 year old was taken home from one of the town's beaches last week.

Police were called at around 2.20am to reports that one of a group of young people socialising on the beach near Pennance Point had injured herself, and arrived to find the girl had injured her ankle and was unable to walk.

A force spokesperson said the girl was "very intoxicated," and was taken home by officers after being checked over by paramedics, while it was also reported that she had gone to the beach following a "domestic incident" that is being followed up by police.

Falmouth Inspector Ian Thompson said that the incident was not part of a wider issue of underage drinking within the town, although he accepted there had been "isolated incidents" during the summer, adding they had been "quickly tackled by the team in Falmouth." He said: "Underage drinking is always a concern no matter what scenario the children are found in. Young children are often not aware of the associated risk of alcohol or the vulnerability it exposes them to.

"I urge parents to make sure they know where their children are going and with whom to promote their safety. If members of the public witness underage drinking in public or have information regarding how they are accessing the alcohol please report it to the police."
