FREE Car Parking in Falmouth

Every Saturday for three months secured

This is a big reminder to all Falmouth Packet readers as well as all Falmouth and Cornish residents to take advantage of FREE car parking in all Cornwall Council-operated car parks in Falmouth on Saturdays over the three months of January, February and March 2018!

The relevant car parks are The Moor, The Quarry, New Street, The Dell, Grove Place and Gyllyngvase. Church Street Car Park is closed during the Western Power Distribution electrical works so this is not applicable however this is included for the Saturday after the 2018 phase of works are completed namely, Saturday the 17th March. From midnight to midnight, there will be no need to press for a ticket as the ticket machines will be switchedoff. So, do come into award-winning Falmouth and enjoy all the town has to offer – superb independent retailers, national outlets, a wide variety of quality-led cafes, pubs and restaurants and inspiring attractions.

The free car parking initiative is one of a series of supportive measures that the awardwinning Falmouth Town Team (Falmouth BID and Falmouth Town Council working in partnership) with support from Western Power Distribution (WPD), has secured to assist the business and wider community during the electrical improvements works being undertaken by WPD. Others include a regional radio campaign and free community shuttle buses to connect residents with the town centre

The 2018 works started on Monday 8th January and run until Friday 16th March and will see the 70-year-old electrical cabling system being replaced in sections, from Market Street, through Church and Arwenack Streets, to Grove Place. A new substation is also being installed in Church St Car Park. The section being worked on at any one time will be around 15-20m in length. During the works, road closures, restricted traffic flow and delivery procedures will be in place. The project is being overseen by WPD and Kier.

The project may take up to 5 years to complete as confirmed by WPD and the works will take place in the first calendar quarter of each year (January to March).

As the works are planned to continue in the Market Street section of the town centre into 2019, it has been agreed that on the completion of this year’s works, a tarmac reinstatement will be undertaken for 2018 with the cobbles being fully reinstated in March 2019.

The works will take place between the hours of 7am until 6pm Monday to Saturday although these times may be subject to change, depending on various phases of the project.

Richard Wilcox Falmouth BID Manager said:

“The Town Team will be on the front foot to support our business and resident community in as many ways as is possible during the electrical works. While these Western Power works are essential, understandable concerns have been raised due to their possible disruptive effect on day-to-day business operations and the wider community. So numerous organisations, led by the BID and Falmouth Town Council are working together to provide supportive measures such as the extensive free car parking offer, thereby ensuring our award-winning town continues to attract shoppers and visitors from around the county and beyond.”
