The Met Office has issued an ice warning for Cornwall as freezing temperatures move into the county overnight.

With a minimum temperatures of zero predicted for some areas, icy patches are expected to develop overnight, most likely on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. There is a chance that injuries could occur from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

With further showers overnight, perhaps with some hail and thunder in places, it will be occasionally breezy and colder than of late with perhaps a grass frost in some rural spots or icy patches where showers have been It will be colder and windier this weekend and will remain rather cloudy on Saturday with further showery rain at times. It will be cold with an added wind chill from a brisk easterly wind with a maximum temperature of 7 °C.

Sunday is likely to be colder and drier with frost by night and some sunshine by day. Turning cloudier and windier on Monday with rain probable later on Tuesday.

The Chief Forecaster's assessment says: "Temperatures will fall quite sharply under clear spells between showers this evening and overnight, likely leading to some icy patches forming, especially where further showers occur during the early hours of Saturday."
