One of Cornwall’s leading heating and renewable specialists is gearing up for its 30th anniversary with a series of activities throughout the year.

Penryn-based Blue Flame Heating Solutions officially turns 30 in October after being founded by directors Paul Smith and Mark Bolitho in 1988.

The company will also be hosting a series of events, for staff, customers and associates alike, throughout 2018 to raise money for Childrens’ Hospice South West – Blue Flame’s charity of the year.

Fellow director, Simon Foxhall, who joined the company in 2011, said: “Paul and Mark have worked really hard over the last 30 years to build a great business with a fantastic reputation across Cornwall.

“I’m a relative newbie, after being here for only seven years, however it’s great to be part of the business’ ongoing success.

“We’re really looking forward to marking this milestone in style.”

Paul and Mark started the business from home after training with British Gas.

The first commercial premises were at Tregonnigie Industrial before moving to Waterside House in Penryn.

The company then settled in its current, custom-built premises, in 2008 and expanded its offering from gas servicing, repair and installation, to cover electrical, plumbing and renewables.

Mark Bolitho said: “There have been a lot of changes in the industry, especially this growth of renewables, and I’m pleased with how we’ve adapted to stay ahead of the competition.”

Over the last 30 years the company has trained over 60 apprentices and established the Blue Flame Academy in partnership with Cornwall College.

Paul Smith said: “My biggest achievement since establishing Blue Flame has been the apprentice programme.

“It’s great to have supported so many people to learn a trade and build a career, many of whom have gone on to become senior managers within the company.”

Blue Flame now employs over 100 people and supports 12,000 customers across Cornwall.
