FALMOUTH MP Sarah Newton says she is very concerned at Marks & Spencer's proposal to close its town centre store.
Mrs Newton said she is looking to meet representatives from the company as soon as possible to discuss its future.
“I am very concerned about this news and the impact it will have on its many staff as well as the town centre, " she said.
“I have asked to meet representatives from the company as soon as possible – on Monday.
“I will ask them to reconsider the proposals and, if they go ahead with the closure, what action they will take to minimise the impact.
“From speaking to local people I know that many residents would like M&S to consider moving to another, smaller premises within the town focusing on aspect of the business such as food sales. I will be raising this possibility with the company with the aim of keeping jobs and investment in the town.”
A petition launched on change.org by to try and get Marks & Spencer to reconsider its proposal to close the store gathered more than 1,000 signatures overnight.
