Tom Cunliffe, professional sailor, writer, columnist for the mainstream yachting press, consultant and RYA examiner engaged and entertained an audience of over 100 at Mylor Yacht Club on Saturday with his talk titled ‘Man is Not Lost’, writes Jane Wright the club's publicity officer.
She said: "His talk combined yarn and solid information of the quality to be expected from such an eminent sailor. He went on an irreverent journey along his time at sea when common sense and seamanship upstaged and provided better outcomes than navigating using solely electronic devices.
"The current obsession with knowing exactly where we are on this planet often limits us from being truly aware of our surroundings and imminent situation."
Tom spent the day looking at the yard facilities provided by Mylor Yacht Harbour and their Marine Team and then went to meet multi-hull boat designer and builder, James Wharram from Devoran before heading to Mylor Yacht Club and the warmth of their club house.
