Students at Falmouth’s Marine School have been putting their beach cleaning skills into action by heading down under the Greenbank Hotel and giving the beach a spruce-up.
Not previously a part of a cleaning scheme, the beach has been adopted by the students as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s ‘Adopt a Beach’ initiative, which encourages people to adopt a beach in their area, and carries out surveys four times yearly.
The students managed to collect a large pile of assorted rubbish, with the main items being plastic carrier bags and pieces of metal.
They are hoping that as the number of beach cleans increase, the amount of rubbish collected will eventually start to drop.
The beach clean under the Greenbank Hotel coincided with the annual ‘Beachwatch’, the flagship event of the ‘Adopt a Beach’ project.
Further events will be organised for later on in the year. To find out more information visit www.fmsadoptthegreenbankbeach.blogspot.com.
