What do you think of Falmouth?

Anyone living in Falmouth or with an interest in the town can attend a Keeping Falmouth Special workshop on Tuesday, July 14 and have their say.

A special ‘Falmouth Five’ postcard for people to express their likes and dislikes about the area will be available from July 13.

The workshop and fold out postcard is part of a programme of consultation to help Cornwall Council plan for the town’s future development. Building on the Falmouth Heritage Economic Regeneration Scheme (HERS), which received Objective One investment and has been cited nationally as an example of best practice, it is part of the Falmouth Conservation Area Management Plan Project.

Kate McCavana, senior conservation officer said the information gathered would be used to produce a detailed plan that developers, council officers could use to plan Falmouth’s future sympathetically.

She said: “Falmouth has undergone some huge changes through the years and the opening of the Combined Universities in Cornwall hub in neighbouring Penryn has accelerated this change.

“We do not wish to see Falmouth frozen in time. Rather, we believe in constructive conservation - a positive and collaborative approach to conservation that focuses on confidently and actively managing change. Our aim is to recognise and reinforce the historic significance of Falmouth whilst accommodating the changes necessary to ensure the continuing use and enjoyment of the town.

“This workshop presents an opportunity for everyone interested to engage with the project team; discuss local issues that affect them as a resident or property owner/manager, and tell us about aspirations for the future of the Falmouth Conservation Area.”The Falmouth Five postcard invites anyone to fill in five examples of subjects including best buildings, worst buildings, places that delight and charm people, great views of the water, things which should change and things which shouldn’t.

It will be available from the Cornwall Council One Stop Shop in Falmouth from Monday.
