Mylor woman in Miss Earth UK final

A Mylor woman has beaten thousands of other girls to reach the final of Miss Earth UK.

Rachel Digby-Jones, from the Enys Estate, entered into the environmental beauty pageant on a whim, but is one of 60 girls going to Warwickshire on August 21 and competing for a chance to go to the Phillipines later this year.

She said: “I didn’t think I would get anywhere in the competition, but when I received the letter informing me I was through to the grand finals I was so shocked.

“My friends and family are being really supportive, especially my grandmother who has inspired me to appreciate nature and never stops telling me the world is my oyster.”

The ideals of the Miss Earth competition is that the contestants are committed to playing a part in preserving and protecting the environment for future generations.

Rachel, who is 24 and studies politics and world development at Cornwall College has travelled around the world since she was 19 and is looking to pursue a career in environmental and countryside management.

Her next step is to find a sponsor to help her raise money for an environmental charity.

“They will need to have some element of keeping green in their company policies, so I hope to hear from anyone interested. The sponsorship is only £195, so they don’t have to be a huge company.”
