Truro Cathedral is expected to be packed with gig rowers today, all dressed in their respective club colours.
They will be paying tribute to Ralph Bird, gig builder of Devoran, who died last week and whose funeral will be held in the cathedral at 12.30pm.
Mr Bird was a life president of the Cornish Gig Association he helped form and was known for bringing the sport of gig rowing to the fore in Cornwall and for building so many traditional vessels.
Today’s service will be followed by cremation at Penmount.
A full report will appear later.
