Maths lessons with their children really added up for parents at Penryn Junior School.
For ten weeks the nine parents joined their child in school for a weekly Family Numeracy Course, in which they learned maths skills together.
The course was led by family development tutor Janet Webb and Susan Knight, a teacher at the school.
Mrs Webb said: “It’s been lovely working with this group.”
Many of the parents found they learned something as well – with one mother learning her times tables in the bath. She was presented with a special laminated copy of the times table at the end of the course.
All the children were presented with a certificate by head teacher Robin Cowan, which they in turn presented to their parents.
Five parents are now planning to work towards a national numeracy qualification through another course at the school in the New Year.
Family Learning is part of Cornwall Council Adult Education, which runs courses across the county in schools and children’s centres. The courses focus on parents helping with their children’s learning.
