Children from Mawnan School were working at the car wash today to raise for the disaster relief effort in Haiti.
After requests from children and parents to do something to help Helston-based charity ShelterBox, the school decided to hold the car wash alongside a “Hats for Haiti” event.
The pupils paid £1 to arrive in a hat of their choice, with some funky designs, while visitors donated £3 to have their car washed.
Parent Andrew Granger, who organised the car wash, said: “It was the children’s idea after ShelterBox came here and visited the school. I think we could get £75.”
Some pupils were outside the school entrance enticing passers by to have their car cleaned.
Head teacher Randall Brook said: “It’s great that the children raised money for the charity. We had the car wash and hats for Haiti, after so many parents asked if we could do something.”
