Love at first sight at the Gweek seal sanctuary

Romance is in the air in time for Valentine’s Day at the National Seal Sanctuary in Gweek as two of the Sanctuary’s rescued seal pups are falling in love.

Ginny and Dobby have caused a stir in the Sanctuary after the two seals were moved into the same pool together and have been inseparable since.

Ginny was rescued malnourished in October from Godrevy at only three days old. Dobby was rescued from Sennen beach in the middle of November with large wounds to his flippers. Both are doing well in their rehabilitation process.

Sanctuary staff member Laura Ward said: “It’s normal that some seal pups tend to get on better with each other than others, but we’ve never seen two seal pups quite as in love as these two, “The minute they gazed across the pool at each other they seemed to fall in love and rushed forward to get close to one another.”

The two pups have been seen to be copying each other’s swimming, sharing their fish together and even having the odd ‘kiss’.

Laura added: “One time we needed to separate them so we could clean the pool, and they cried loudly constantly until they were let back in together.”
