Around 75 students from Falmouth and Penryn gathered in protest this afternoon over the proposed cuts to university funding and the rise in tuition fees.

They were taking part in a national day of protests, involving students around the country.

At 1pm around 25 students from University College Falmouth and the University of Exeter gathered at the Tremough campus to wave banners.

Two hours later they were at a second protest at the Woodlane campus, where they were joined by other students.

Around 60 of them braved the pouring rain to vocally make their protest known through chanting and songs.

Falmouth police officers were at both protests, to make sure order was kept.

Other protests took place around the county, including in Truro where students brought the A390 to a standstill as they walked from Truro College to Cornwall Council’s offices, County Hall.

Police closed the road while the march took place, with more than 100 students involved in the protest.
