Falmouth chef cooks up prize winning performance
A Falmouth chef has scooped up a prestigious award at a national cooking competition.
Dave Waplington, senior sous chef at the Green Lawns Hotel, won the best in class in the Rational Master Chefs Grand Prix at the Hospitality Salon Culinaire 2011 awards at the NEC in Birmingham.
Dave who cooked in a team alongside two other chefs, Robert Oberhoffer and Mark Roberts, was required to produce four courses in 1&½ hours using a mystery box of ingredients.
The objective within the time was to create, discuss, cook and present the menu. Ten teams competed, amongst them Gleneagles, The Craft Guild of Chefs and the NEC Catering team.
The team were also awarded the title of overall winners of the Master chefs Grand Prix 2011 Mr. Neil Slade, General Manager, Green Lawns Hotel said: 'We are delighted to be associated with David's recent success at the Rational Master Chefs Grand Prix and thrilled that he has achieved such critical acclaim for the second year in a row.
